Contacting your Peer Supporters

You can find our email addresses under our pictures below, and also search our names on Facebook. We’ll try and get back to you as soon as we can, with advice and/or a listening ear. Of course, you can always catch us in person too, between lectures or for a coffee! Keep an eye out for Peer Support events too, where some of the team will be in our blue Peer Support t-shirts – come and say hello!

Past Talk Topics..

  • Settling into halls or finding a friend group to share student housing with
  • How to manage stress
  • Who in the University to contact about something
  • Having difficulty with a particular lecture topic or assignment
  • Feeling isolated or homesick
  • Grief and loss
  • What to do about frustrating housemates
  • How to get deadlines extended or apply for mitigating circumstances
  • Revision/note-taking method advice
  • Relationship difficulties (romantic, family or friendly)
  • Talking about mental health and where to get support
Contacting us can be as discrete as you like, and is always confidential. This means that no one else is told what we talk about, not even the vet school. The only time we discuss with you to break this is if we’re seriously concerned you or others are in harm’s way – then we work with you to get more support. We will never judge you for the topics you choose to contact us about, and we encourage you to seek support before you think you need it – prevention is always better than cure, and your mental wellbeing is vital to your veterinary career.

What happens when I contact Peer Support?

  1. Once you've found our email addresses or Facebook from the posters, send us a message saying whether you'd like to talk to us via:
    • email
    • messenger
    • phone call
    • video call
    • meet in person
  2. The Peer Supporter will reply to you and help organise when you can talk
  3. Don't worry if you haven't got a specific problem - your peer supporter will guide you through the conversation and do their best to support you
  4. Most of the time, a conversation can be helpful on its own. However, should you wish to seek further suport, peer mentors can support you accessing further mental health services.
