Committee Study Advice

Everyone learns very differently. Don’t feel pressured to do the same as everyone else when it comes to studying. Some people take notes, others make visual aids, others even find listening a beneficial way to revise. Try out a few different methods and find one (or a combination) that works for you. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help! Ask your peers or lecturers if your struggling to understand!

Use Peerwise to write and practice MCQ's!

Be prepared to adapt your learning style to suit a heavier and different workload. What worked for you at school may not work at uni! (But if it does, then great!).

If your lecture notes don't fit on one page (I use mind maps) then you're trying to learn too much!

You're not alone if you're feeling stressed...  A good work-play balance is just as important as studying hard. Make sure you find time in your busy schedule to join a sports/arts club and socialise with friends
Flash cards, Flash cards, Flash cards!

Don't just write them- LEARN THEM!
Make sure you assign your revision time effectively. Work out how much time you have been timetabled for each subject and revise appropriate to this. You will be examined based on the amount of teaching time

Review previous lectures before revision period! Prioritise areas you have forgotten from the lecture. Even better review them a few times (I do this instead of writing notes)!

Don't be afraid or ashamed to ask for help, nearly everyone struggles in one way or another whilst at vet school and there's so much support available. It's there for a reason, use it!
You don't have to get 100% in exams (you won't) ... vet school isn't about exam performance but about long term learning and developing social skills that you will need in work... so don't spend all of your time in your books- go join a sports club or society, make friends that aren't vets, destress and try to enjoy uni and have fun!

Keep notes short and sweet- you have all the info you need on VITAL

Try revising with friends, everything you talk about will stick in your mind!

If you work well with someone- stick at it!
Don't be scared to try different styles of note taking, and to try and keep on top of notes from the start so you don't feel to overwhelmed with work!
I found my friends were the best support I could've asked for during stressful times, we're all in the same boat so there's always someone to ask for help if you need it

Use the learning objectives  as questions.

Putting everything into tables has really helped me organise the work load

Don't work yourself into the ground trying to get 100% vet school isn't about perfection it's about building up your knowledge year on year. And for me playing vets hockey has been amazing for both stress relief and meeting people in different years- you never know when an older (year) vet student will come in handy!
